The SH7724 is the third product in Renesas' SH772x series of low power application processors designed for multimedia applications for portable and industrial devices. The SH7724 provides 30% more processing performance than the previous product, as well as HD video playback and recording combined with various connectivity interfaces, such as USB 2.0, SD, Ethernet, and two 5-Megapixel camera interfaces. The new SH7724 is intended for use in personal navigation devices (PNDs), personal multimedia players (PMP) and audio and video equipment, such as door entry systems and IP security cameras. The key differentiator is the ultra-low-power consumption especially for audio, video and graphics processing.
The SH7724 is based on the state-of-the-art superscalar SH-4A core running at 500 MHz providing a processing performance of 900 DMIPS. An on-chip FPU, a sophisticated internal bus system and a large L2 cache deliver ample system performance for application processing. The addition of dedicated accelerators for audio, video, image and graphics processing enable advanced multimedia applications at an incredible low power level including H. 264 video encode/decode at HD resolution and 30 fps, yet still providing headroom for simultaneous application processing. The addition of an Ethernet controller and a 2ND camera interface enables dual-video streaming applications and makes the device ideally suited for security and IP camera applications.
The SH7724 provides a comprehensive set of peripheral functions enabling the principal functions of an entire system to be implemented with a single chip, greatly helping to reduce system cost. On-chip display functions comprise a 2D graphics engine for screen drawing and an LCD controller and digital RGB output function for display purposes.
